Review of the Dell XPS 15 9510 2021 Model

Here’s a Review of the Dell XPS 15 9510 2021 Model. The Dell XPS 15 is the newest model in the company’s line of high-end business laptops, and it has been upgraded with a more streamlined design and a new OLED screen option.

The XPS still uses powerful Intel 11th-gen processors and discrete Nvidia graphics on the inside, and on the outside, it still has the same appearance and feels.

But the XPS 15 is still not inexpensive. You’ll need to shell out $2,249 or £2,249 for the midrange XPS 15 configuration we’ve examined in order to obtain this device.

This is the most recent XPS 15 model, the 9510, which was released late in 2021. Since the laptop’s name doesn’t change with each subsequent iteration.

Design & Build:

  • Superb build quality and looks
  • Relatively slim and light body
  • Has Thunderbolt 4, but many other parts are missing

The XPS 15’s broad shape hasn’t altered much, but it is still among the best-looking laptops out there. The XPS 15 comes in two color options: the silver and black I’ve already discussed or a white finish. The base and lid are made of aluminum, the keyboard deck is made of carbon fiber.

The new Dell device is 18mm thick and weighs between 1.8kg and 1.96kg, depending on the specification. Those are outstanding numbers for a capable 15.6-inch laptop. Despite this, it is still one of the most durable notebooks in our group and is great for traveling.

Other places have more constrained designs. There are no wired internet connections and only two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the left edge and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 port and (rare) SD card reader on the right. If you want HDMI or a full-size USB, you’ll need to utilize the provided adapter.

This is unfortunate, especially the USB-A port, given the laptop’s 18mm thickness, but switching to USB-C solely is now fairly prevalent.

Keyboard & Trackpad:

  • An excellent keyboard for all-day typing
  • A good layout despite the lack of a number pad
  • A large and accurate trackpad

The most recent Dell XPS 15 continues the pattern of pleasing keyboards found in previous models of the XPS line. Its buttons have strong enough travel and a reassuringly sturdy base, and they are quick, sharp, and enjoyable to press.

The keys are easily good enough to handle a day of typing, and the lack of a number pad is the only serious layout issue.

The trackpad on the Dell XPS 15 is sizable and features a precise, smooth surface. Its built-in buttons respond quickly, and it fully supports gestures. Only by connecting a USB mouse will you see any improvement.

Specs & Performance:

  • A powerful and versatile Intel Core i7 processor
  • The XPS scythes through work tasks without too much noise
  • Decent battery life, but no surprises here

An eight-core Intel Core i7-11800H processor powers the XPS 15 9510, which also boasts a 1TB SSD and 32GB of dual-channel DDR4 memory. Dual-band WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 provide connectivity, and a mid-range Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti with a reasonable 45W power restriction provides the graphics muscle.

This remarkable piece of silicon is the i7-11800H. Dell managed a score of 9008 in Geekbench’s multi-core test and a result of 6,214 in PCMark 10. The popular AMD Ryzen 7 5800H cannot match the Geekbench result, yet the popular Intel processor matches AMD’s silicon in PCMark 10.

And, with reasonable SSD read and write speeds of 3,440MBs and 3,252MBs, you can be sure that the XPS will boot and load applications quickly.

All of this is promising for the actual application. The Dell computer is capable of handling any routine work task, as well as challenging multitasking scenarios and numerous browser tabs. Unless you want to create high-end 4K content, it can handle video editing and has the speed to run photo editing software.
It is still more than many modern computers ship with. Even though the most recent Huawei MateBook X Pro (2022) is 14.2 inches smaller and costs about the same, it still
uses Intel Iris Xe graphics.
You can see how the Dell XPS 15 9510 stacks up against competitors like the Surface Laptop 4, Asus ZenBook Duo 14, Huawei MateBook 16, and MacBook Air M1 in the comparison chart above.

Price & Availability:

When compared to Dell’s wider range, the Dell I’ve examined has a mid-range specification and costs £2,249 in the UK and $2,249 in the US. You’re in luck if you want the model with the more striking OLED display because it costs $2,299 in the US and £2,218 in the UK.

The Core i7-11800H processor and RTX 3050 Ti GPU are still included in the lowest XPS 15, which costs £1,849 or $1,499 USD. That system includes a 512GB SSD, 16GB of memory, and a Full HD non-touch display.

However, there appears to be a Core i5 model with 8GB RAM that’s only available via John Lewis for £1,499.

If you don’t want to buy from Dell, you can get the XPS 15 9510 from the likes of Amazon, John Lewis, Currys, Laptops Direct, Very, and Ebuyer.

This choice more closely resembles the most recent Huawei MateBook X Pro (2022). Although it has a high-resolution touchscreen and comparable excellent specifications, the screen is smaller at 14.2 inches and there is no dedicated GPU.

Along with the more potent Core i9-11900H processor, the XPS 15 is also available with 64GB of memory and 2TB SSDs, but expect to pay a hefty price for those upgrades: the fully updated XPS 15 is only available with an OLED display and costs £3,223 or US$3,199.
