Review of google pixel 7 in 2023

Review of google pixel 7 in 2023. The Pixel 7 will be released in 2022, even though Google sells a small percentage of the smartphones that companies like Samsung sell.

This year, there may be more anticipation surrounding the Pixel Watch because it is Google’s first smartwatch (apart from Fitbit) and because, to borrow Intel’s old clock system and metaphor, phones are in a year where development is incremental rather than radical.

However, with prices starting at just $599/£599/€649 the Pixel 7 still sets the benchmark for flagship Android phones and should make for a very solid purchase for many smartphone users – except if you have a Pixel 6.

Design & Build:

  • More compact
  • New colors
  • Gorilla Glass Victus front and back

The Pixel 7’s striking resemblance to its predecessor is not particularly surprising, despite Google making a few minor changes here and there. It’s similar to running into an old buddy and trying to determine whether they have a new hairstyle.

The main difference with the normal 7 under test is that it is slightly smaller than prior models. Only a few millimeters here and there and 10g of weight were lost. After using the Pixel 6 for a year, I can report that there has been a change and the phone no longer feels like a top-heavy brick, but it is still a large phone.

A somewhat sleeker and more space-age-looking camera bar that is still a chunky monkey with buttons placed a little lower down the side otherwise looks very identical.

The available colors are the most noticeable change. Obsidian, a traditional black, is joined this year by Snow, a white choice, and Lemongrass, a gaudy yellow-green option. To each their own, but I personally prefer the sage green Pixel 6a or the hazel Pixel 7 Pro.

What I noticed right away about the Pixel 6’s black color scheme is that the bezel, which is sandwiched between the display and light-colored aluminum in Snow or Lemongrass, is considerably more obvious.

Putting the slickness aside (it’s still quite slick), I regrettably have to comment on the Victus phone’s durability after it very unintentionally fell out of my car and onto the tarmac. Even though Corning tested this in a lab at a height of 2m, the phone still fractured, albeit just in one corner.

Even still, I would advise using a case to prevent the phone from falling off objects, slipping out of pockets, etc. Google’s official ones cost $29.99/£24.99 and are comparable to last year’s (albeit apparently made of strong plastic without the discoloration problem).

Screen & Speakers:

  • 6.3in
  • Full HD+ 90Hz
  • Stereo speakers
  • Face Unlock

With a 6.3-inch diagonal size, this year’s screen is 0.1-inch smaller than last year’s Pixel 6. Although it’s not much, as was already said, the  Pixel 7, does feel more manageable when you take into account the chassis’s smaller size and lighter weight.

Other than that, things are essentially the same thanks to an OLED display that has a Full HD+ (1080 x 2400) resolution, a tall 20:9 aspect ratio, and a pixel density of 416ppi. If you absolutely must have 120Hz (with LTPO for dynamic refresh rate), you’ll need to get the Pixel 7 Pro, which also has curved edges as opposed to the Pixel 7’s flat sides. The refresh rate is still 90Hz.

Nonetheless, 90Hz is a great, steady refresh rate, and Google has upped the brightness to 1000 nits (HDR) and up to 1400 nits at its highest point, which is 25% more than the Pixel 6’s brightness. Using a SpyderX Pro, I measured it at a more reasonable 485 nits while leaving adaptive brightness off.

The Pixel 7 lacks a headphone port but still features dual speakers (or an adapter in the box). Nevertheless, the speakers sound excellent, allowing you to watch YouTube videos and listen to music without cringing at the sound quality if you don’t have a Bluetooth speaker.

When you initially switch on the phone, you may easily set this up. A ring then displays around the front-facing camera to indicate that the phone is looking for you when you wish to unlock it. The unlocked padlock sign and a message at the bottom of the display can be found lower on the screen if it works
